Maine voters passed an Act to Legalize Marijuana on November 8, 2016. The legislation allows adults 21 and older to possess, consume and cultivate marijuana for personal use. Almost four years later, in September 2020, Maine issued the first retail licenses to sell marijuana.
Now in June 2021, there are 34 active marijuana selling licenses and they have sold over $22.77 million in marijuana products. 50 municipalities statewide have become involved, and the market is booming.
